Where it began

Inspired by Max Hawkins

Max Hawkins created the original Daily Random playlist. After it stopped updating in March 2026, we built Daily Random Revival as an independent, working continuation of that idea.

Meet RandomPodcasts

Our sibling project RandomPodcasts.com applies the same curiosity to podcast discovery, with thirty unexpected episodes every day.

The anti-recommendation engine

Random means random.

Spotify search ranks by relevance and popularity, so random search terms still produce famous music. We take a different route.

Pick an ISRC bucket

A random four-digit suffix selects a small slice of MusicBrainz’s recording catalogue.

Draw one recording

We choose a random position in that slice. MusicBrainz has no popularity ranking to influence the result.

Resolve the exact track

The recording’s ISRC finds its exact Spotify match—no recommendation or ranking step involved.

Repeat daily

Thirty successful matches replace the playlist every 24 hours.
